PREFERRED CARE, INC.

Preferred Care, Inc. was established in 1988 by Bruce McKinney and Bill Norsworthy.  Bruce brought an extensive background in the management and administration of single and multi-specialty medical groups, complemented by consulting services in the areas of insurance and billing issues. Bill brought an extensive background in managed healthcare plans in particular the development and operation of HMOs. The original emphasis of Preferred Care was the development of regional provider networks which would become the building block for established regional PPO managed healthcare plans.

Strategically, Preferred Care emphasized programs for employers that utilized partially self-funded plans under the guidelines of ERISA. Preferred Care concluded that ERISA programs offered the best opportunity to bring providers, payers/employers, users and insurers together in a cooperative structure.  These programs afforded the structure for all parties to benefit from their joint efforts to manage health care and to provide quality cost effective benefits.  To that end, Preferred Care developed specific expertise in working with reinsurers, TPAs and agents in customizing benefit programs for their clients.

As the healthcare industry has evolved the need for new networks has diminished; however, the need to effectively manage employee medical benefit programs has increased dramatically. Preferred Care has transitioned with the industry and specializes in the development, implementation and administration of ERISA based Health and Welfare Benefit Plans for small to medium size employers.   These programs work extremely well for group sizes 50 to 500 employee’s.  Preferred Care, Inc. dba Preferred Administrators, Inc. offers claims payment services and a complete range of services to agents and brokers for their ERISA plan clients. Preferred Administrators has access to a wide variety of reinsurance markets for these programs. Some of the major carriers presently utilized: Companion Life, Combined Insurance, Zurich Life, Gerber Life, QBE Insurance and Lloyd’s of London.

Since not all groups fit ERISA coverages, Preferred Care offers a full range of benefit programs and coverages for small groups and individuals.  These coverages include Medical, Dental, Short and Long Term Disability, Life, AD&D and Long Term Care.

Preferred Care has been an active participant in the design of healthcare strategies for associations and employer groups looking for innovative plans for their members, which provide alternatives to traditional medical insurance benefit programs. Preferred Care, in its efforts to continue providing alternative options, offers an umbrella product designed for associations which incorporates several carriers’ products. Preferred Care provides the administrative services related to these products including coordination of the carriers, billing and general service to the covered individuals. Each association is treated individually with the opportunity to “private label” products tailored to the needs of its members. The program utilizes access to a variety of carriers for this product and related benefit coverages.  American General Insurance Company, ACE, Fairmont Premier Insurance Company, Time Insurance Company, John Alden, Assurant Health and Companion Life Insurance are some of the carriers offering products.

Realizing that employers may have specialized situations and needs, the staff of Preferred Care also provides consulting for and assistance to groups and individuals for review and/or design of their benefit programs.
